James Melville Moncur
Royal Scots FAUBOURG D'AMIENS CEMETERY, ARRAS The elder son of Mr. J. L. Moncur, managing director of Messrs. Mackenzie and Moncur, Edin., was born in 1892, and attended G.W.C. 1898-1911, where he was prominent in the athletic clubs, being in the 1st XV. of 1910-11. He was also a member of the O.T.C. He entered his father's firm on leaving, and meanwhile played for the Watsonian 'A' XV. Joining the 9th R.S. when war broke out, he went to France. Later he obtained a commission. He fell in action on Apr. 17, 1917

William George Moncur
Royal Scots HONNECHY BRITISH CEMETERY Was born in 1894, and was educated at G.W.C. 1899-11, where he was a member of the Cadet Corps. He won the championship shield in 1911 in the swimming club. Joining the staff of Messrs. Mackenzie and Moncur, he enlisted on the outbreak of war, and early in 1915 went to the Western Front. After being wounded and for a long time in hospital, he obtained his commission in the R.S., and again went to France in June 1917. On Dec. 25 he was fatally wounded in a raid and taken prisoner by the Germans. He died in their hands that day.

James Douglas Monro
Discharged Not Known A son of Mr. J. D. Monro, Edin., was born in 1895, and attended G.W.C. 1902-12. He was a keen boy scout and a member of the R.S. Cadets. In Sept. 1914 he joined the Lothian Mounted Bde., R.A.S.C., and was commissioned later to the E. Surrey Regt. Oct. 1915. He was badly wounded in Aug. 1916 in France, was discharged in Apr. 1918, and went into business with Messrs. Lindsay, Jamieson and Haldane, C.A. He had left to take up an appointment as overseer on a rubber estate in the Malay States, when his ship was torpedoed off the Irish coast on Oct. 4, 1918, and he perished in the disaster.

Eric Roy More
Gordon Highlanders TEZZE BRITISH CEMETERY Was born in 1898, and attended G.W.C. 1906-14, where he played football, golf and cricket. On leaving he joined the staff of the Commercial Bank of Scotland, and was promoted to the Head Office. A member of the E.U.O.T.C. 1916, he passed on to the Bristol Cadet School, and received a commission in the Gordon Hrs., Sept. 1917. After serving fora few weeks in France, he went with his Bn. to Italy, and there fell in action, Oct. 27, 1918.

Archibald A. Morison
R.N. PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL A son of the late Dr. D. Morison, Calcutta, was born in 1887, and attended G.W.C. 1898-1905. As a footballer he was one of the best full backs and an outstanding member of the XV. His conscious and unconscious influence in the School was all for good. At Edin. Univ. he was Beaney Prizeman in Anatomy and Surgery, and graduated M.B. Ch.B. in 1910. He was lost on the Indefatigable in the Jutland Battle, May 31, 1916.

Eric Maurice Morison
Cameron Highlanders LOOS MEMORIAL The elder son of Mr. R. C. H. Morison, publisher, was born in Edin. in 1893. He attended G.W.C. from 1899-1905, and on leaving School entered an insurance office. In Sept. 1914 he joined the 5th Cameron Hrs. (Lochiel's) as a Pte., and went to France with his Bn. in May 1915. He was killed in action at the storming of the Hohenzollern Redoubt during the battle of Loos, Sept. 25, 1915.

James Stuart Morris
Rifle Brigade Not Known Was born in 1888, and attended G.W.C. 1897-1904. He left to join the staff of the Royal Bank of Scotland. When he had completed his apprenticeship, he went to London to the office of the Guaranty Trust Coy. of New York. He had been a keen Territorial in the 4th R.S., and in Aug. 1914 he enlisted in the Rifle Bde. He rose to the rank of C.S.M., and after 15 months' service he died of wounds in the battle of the Somme, Sept. 15, 1916.

Alexander Morrison
Cameron Highlanders LOOS MEMORIAL The third son of the late J. Morrison, Oban and Edin., was born in 1886, and attended G.W.C. 1899-1906. He proved one of the most forceful and attractive personalities the School has turned out in recent years. He was Captain of the XV. for two years (1904-6), was one of the founders of The Watsonian, and the first Cdt. Lt. of the Cadet Corps. On leaving he studied agriculture at Edin.Univ., but his interest in the School remained undiminished. He played in the Watsonian XV., was the founder of the Watsonian 1905 Club, and in numberless other ways showed his interest in the School. He went to Canada to take up farming, and happened to be home when war broke out. Largely on his initiative the Watsonian Training Corps was formed, and he drilled it till he got a commission in the 5th Cameron Hrs. He crossed to France with the rank of Capt., and fell in action in the battle of Loos, Sept. 25, 1915

James Bough Morrison
Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders HARINGHE (BANDAGHEM) MILITARY CEMETERY Was born 1892, and entered G.W.C. in 1901, where he was a keen cricketer. A lover of music, he became organist in Greenside Parish Church. Enlisting in the R.S. in 1914, he received a commission in the A. and S. H. in 1917, and rose to be A/Capt. In the same year he joined the 9th Div., went to France, and was wounded while engaged with his Stokes gun, and died Oct. 13, 1918.

James William Morrison
R.N.D. Not Known A son of Mr. J. Morrison, Edin., attended G.W.C. 1897-1901, and afterwards served his apprenticeship as quantity surveyor and qualified as a land surveyor. He resigned an appointment in the War Office to enlist in 1915 as an Ordinary Seaman in the R.N.D. He gained his commission, was sent to Gallipoli, promoted, and posted to the command of a company. After the evacuation, his battalion was ordered to France, where he was mentioned in Despatches for his gallantry before Beaumont Hamel, and recommended for promotion. After the capture of Gaverelle by his battalion, he was mortally wounded and was buried on the battle-field.
